Hello friends. It’s been some time since I shared, but wanted to jump on to talk about a strange phenomenon that’s been happening to me.
I’m still at it, meditating for at least 10 minutes a day every.single.day. On days where I don’t get on my pillow in the morning, I find by late afternoon I’m longing for the quiet and will head off to my room for a little me-time. It gives me a little break so that I’m ready to tackle dinner and bed time routine with my two children.
About 3 days out of my 10 day Coming Home to Yourself course with Sarah Blondin on my Insight Timer app I’ve ended up with tears streaming down my eyes. I’m not crying or sad, it’s almost like a release, but albeit a strange occurrence and something I wasn’t expecting at all.
I decided to investigate this a bit more and found that it’s apparently quite common. Some of the reasons that one might cry when they meditate are:
- feeling overwhelmingly happy
- yawning
- your eyes are just relaxed and cleaning themselves
According to StreamMeditation.com “Tears are the manifestation of unresolved emotions that are suppressed in our subconscious. When you meditate, your thoughts are silenced, allowing your feelings to surface and trigger strong emotional responses that can manifests in shedding tears.”
So if my body decides it’s going to release some suppressed emotions or old energy – I’m all for it and will not resist.
I’d love to know from those who have a practice – have you experiences this before? If so, I’d love to know your thoughts.
